Botanical Name: Ernodea littoralis
Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): A prostrate (growing close to, or on the ground). A spreading ground cover that grows 2-3 feet tall and wide. Easy to control, keeping it tidy, perfect for filling in empty spots. Prefers full sun to light shade and thrives in sandy or rocky soils. Extremely salt- and drought-tolerant.
How you can help by planting this: Flowers attract butterflies. Provides fruit for birds. Stabilizes soil in coastal areas and provides habitat for insects and ground-nesting birds. All around great plant for wildlife and for the gardener
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Small, tubular pink flowers bloom year-round, followed by orange to red berries.
Pairs well with: Sea Purslane, Goldenrod, and Beach Verbena, Dwarf Fakahatchee Grass, and other erosion control and ground cover plants.
