Botanical Name: Sambucus nigra subsp. canadensis
Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): A fast-growing, multi-stemmed shrub reaching up to 10-12 feet tall. Prefers moist, well-drained soils and full to partial sun. Regular pruning can maintain a tidy form.
How you can help by planting this: Provides nectar for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while its berries feed birds and mammals.
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Large clusters of creamy white flowers in late spring followed by dark purple-black berries in late summer.
