Botanical Name: Heterosavia bahamensis (Also known as Savia bahamensis)
Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): An Endangered Rockland Hammock plant. A medium/tall shrub or small tree with a rounded crown. Bark varies between a pale gray and white. Leaves are smooth to touch, dark green in color, about 1-2 inches long. About 8-12 feet in height or rarely more. Usually about as broad as tall. This is a slow grower, but fills in nicely. Prefers full sun, but will tolerate some shade.
How you help by planting this: Attracts Pollinators. Supports native pollinators and birds with its flowers and seeds. Play a role in the conservation of rare local species which are so close to disappearing in their native range.
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Greenish-white. Inconspicuous. Fragrant. Dioecious, with make and female flowers on different plants. Spring-summer; peak in spring. Fruit: Rounded capsule.
Pairs well with: Florida Privet, Locustberry, and others in the Hammock plant collection.
