Botanical Name: Myrica zuzygium (as known as Calyptranthes zuzygium)
Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): An endangered rockland hammock and coastal berm evergreen shrub or tree reaching 15-20 feet tall. Prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained, moist soils, often found in riverbanks or wetland areas.
How you can help by planting this: Provides habitat for birds and insects, especially bees and butterflies, and can help improve soil quality by fixing nitrogen.
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Small, yellowish flowers bloom in spring, followed by blue-gray berries in late summer to fall.
Pairs well with: Swamp Milkweed, Florida Firebush, and Blue Porterweed for a wetland-friendly, pollinator-rich garden.
