Mangrove Mallow

Botanical Name: Pavonia paludicola

Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): A long-living shrub growing to about 5 feet tall. Prefers full sun to partial shade and wet, poorly drained soils, especially in coastal or mangrove environments.

How you can help by planting this:  Support over-wintering populations of hummingbirds. Mainly Ruby-throated Hummingbirds spend their winters in South Florida, grow this plant in your garden to have them closer to you. Plant it, and they’ll find you!

Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Medium sized yellow green hibiscus-type flowers, which are insanely attractive to hummingbirds.

Pairs well with: Green Buttonwood, Silver Buttonwood, Myrtle of the River, Wild Coffee, Coco Plum.
