Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): A tree growing 15-30 feet tall, typically found in wetland areas. Prefers full sun, partial to full shade and moist, tolerant of frequent and regular inundation.
How you can help by planting this: Provides food for wildlife, particularly birds and mammals, with its fruit. The plant also improves biodiversity in wetland habitats. Larval food source for Giant Sphinx Moth. Pollinated by beetles.
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Large, fragrant yellow to white flowers bloom in summer, followed by green fruits that ripen to yellow or orange.
Pairs well with: Swamp Milkweed, Spider lily, Bald Cypress, and Swamp plant collection.
