Botanical Name: Guettarda scabra
Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): A Pine Rockland habitat shrub or small tree, grows 5-15 feet tall, normally 8ft or so in home landscapes. Prefers full sun and well-drained, sandy soils. Tolerant of coastal conditions. Very rare and sporadic north of the Miami River.
How you can help by planting this: Attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies and provides food for birds with its seeds.
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Small, white or yellow flowers bloom all year, but peak winter-spring, followed by rounded red velvety berry.
Pairs well with: Bahama Wild Coffee, Florida Thatch Palm, Winged Sumac, Saw Palmetto, grasses and wildflowers below.
