Botanical Name: Coreopsis leavenworthii
Description (growth habits, light requirements & care): A perennial herb that grows 1-3 feet tall. Prefers full sun, moist, acidic soils. If the plants are cut back near the end of their bloom, they will produce another flush of flowers. They can also be string-trimmed or mowed to 6–8 inches.
Coreopsis is Florida’s State Wildflower.
How you can help by planting this: Supports pollinators, especially butterflies, with its nectar-rich flowers and helps to stabilize soil in drier areas. Source of nectar and pollen for honeybees and native bees.
Flower and Fruit (color, characteristics, season): Bright yellow or golden flowers bloom all year, attracting bees and butterflies.
Pairs well with: Goldenrod, Beach Verbena, Aster flowers, Fakahatchee Grass, and Mulhy Grass for a colorful, pollinator-friendly garden.
